Celebrating 50 years of community engagement, action and collaboration
Fifty years ago, a small dedicated group of neighbors began a grassroots effort to help the neighbors in their community who needed it most, and the People’s Pantry of Lakeview was born. Serving just under 100 people in our first year, today Lakeview Pantry is on track to provide more than 100,000 clients with 4 million meals through 57,000 site visits, Online Market orders, and dozens of community pop-up partnerships this year. We also provide critical social services including mental health counseling, job search support and crisis intervention. With the support of more than 5,000 volunteers, we serve neighborhoods across the city of Chicago.

Support our COVID-19 response
Lakeview Pantry is committed to supporting our low income residents and their families during the COVID-19 outbreak. 40% of Chicagoans live in economic hardship which means the loss of just one paycheck, or even one shift at work can cause a dramatic decrease in financial stability, leading to food insecurity. Lakeview Pantry will be here to help those affected by this crisis.

“I first became interested in Lakeview Pantry after I retired and was looking for a volunteering opportunity to give back to the community. During this time I saw firsthand the real need for this service. Unfortunately, arthritis and a bad back forced me to step back from the physical work, but I have been happy to continue with my financial support. Congratulations to Lakeview Pantry on their 50 years of service!”
