Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Lakeview Pantry.

Lakeview Pantry currently has more than 1,000 active volunteers, and we are so grateful to have such a committed volunteer corps. We have a wide variety of opportunities for both individuals and groups to volunteer.

If you are have never volunteered before and are interested in one of these opportunities, you will need to attend a New Volunteer Training Session. If you have questions or concerns about volunteering at Lakeview Pantry, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information. If your question is not answered on that page, you can contact the Volunteer Department at volunteers@lakeviewpantry.org or by phone at 773-525-1777 ext 219.

  • Group Opportunities

We would be happy to host your organization at Lakeview Pantry. There is no need for group members to attend an orientation session and large groups are scheduled directly with the Manager of Volunteers. Smaller groups (8 or less) are able to assist us at our distribution shifts at our Sheridan Location (3945 N Sheridan Rd).  These shifts are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am-2pm or 1pm-5pm or Thursday from 4-7pm or 6-9pm. We utilize larger groups to help unload deliveries, stock shelves and take care of cleaning and housekeeping duties at other times throughout the week.

To get scheduled, email drew@lakeviewpantry.org with your groups size and your general availability (weekdays, weekends, evenings). Groups of 15 or fewer are the easiest to place, but larger groups can sometimes be accommodated.
  • Volunteer on Our Behalf at the Greater Chicago Food Depository

Groups and individuals may also volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository on behalf of Lakeview Pantry. GCFD is major food bank that supplies local pantries like Lakeview Pantry with food at a deeply discounted rate.

Volunteer time at GCFD turns into food credit for our account, but you must designate “Lakeview Pantry A000014″ when signing up for the credit to apply.

We pay just pennies per pound for food from GCFD, so any volunteer labor credit helps us in a big way! For more info, visit the GCFD website.
